Mabira Forest Rubber Company, for the exploitation of this rubber, timber and other forest products. This tree was first discovered by
Hr.Dawe in the Mabira Forest which is situated near the source of
the Nile,but was subsequently found by him and others in many of the
larger forests of the Protectorate.
Kr.Dawe further discovered a number of new and valuable timber
trees of the mahogany,cedar and yellow-wood classes. His discovery of the existance, on the shores of the Victoria Nyanza,of extensive and valuable yellow-wood forests, resulted in the working of these forests by the Government, which had the effect of reducing the im-
ports of Scandinavian timber to the country.
During Mr.Dave's term with the Uganda Administration he visited Indian and Ceylon, as well as the Sudan and Egypt,in order to study the methods of agriculture followed in those countries.From Ceylon Mr.Dawe brought back large collections of plants and seeds, which formed the birth of many of the caçao,rubber,rice and other planta-
tions which exist in Uganda to-day,
Kr.Dave started the organisation of the agricultural, forestry, and scientific services in Uganda ai nglehanded, and on his resignation eight years later, handed over separate and organised agricultural, forestry and cotton departments, each with a distinct and adequate
staff..
In May of 1909, Mr.Dave was presented with an Illuminated Address by the planting and commercial community of Uganda,in recognition
of his services to the country. He resigned from the Uganda service in August 1910 to take up an appointment as Director of Agriculture
